Healthy People in Healthy Environments What do we do? • Change behavior (inspire, train, educate) • Help - provide technical assistance, health consultation, manage risk • Issue permits to construct, operate or work • Inspect to assure compliance • Investigate disease outbreaks • Involve those we regulate (Adv Comm, meetings) • Enforce the laws and regulations

The air and us… • Our lungs inhale over 2,000 gallons of air per day. • We take about 23,000 breaths per day. • The surface area inside our lungs is about the same as a tennis court.
The air and us… • Our lungs are the only internal organs that are directly exposed to the environment. • A person can live without: • food for about 30 days, • water for about 3 days, • air about 3 minutes !
