Background • In 2010 and 2011, WMS did not demonstrate Adequate Yearly Progress in Mathematics or Language Arts • In 2012, our PPI (Progress and Performance Index) showed positive improvements • We have not met the requirements for a Level 1 school, according to the DESE
Our Task • To raise student achievement • To increase instructional minutes in both Language Arts and Mathematics • To maintain a comprehensive Program of Studies for Middle School students

In summary: • According to brain development research, during early childhood through adolescence, children are highly receptive to new information and able to gain specific skills more easily. As teachers we need to be aware of these stages and ensure our teaching consolidates these phases of brain development (www.curriculumsupport.education).
In summary: • The middle school years are a time for learners to strengthen their skills in reading, writing, communicating and STEM. • We owe it to OUR students to close the gap and to raise their performance levels.
