Mini activity • Hold your arm out straight and parallel to the floor. Now, “make a muscle.” As you flex your biceps muscle, notice what happens to the rest of your arm. • When you relaxed your bicep your arm goes straight. what allows your arm to straighten in a controlled manner? • If you did not have your triceps what would the movement of the arm look like when you relaxed the bicep?
Draw the following bones w/ the bicep & tricep. Make sure to show where the tendon attaches!!

2. The bicep/tricep is an example of opposing pairs. 3. There is a balance of the muscles that the brain must learn. a.Think of a baby learning to walk. b.Or a musician learning to play the violin or drums c. Or a athlete learning to throw or swing 4. Muscle coordination takes practice!

Build A Skeletal Muscle. Use all available information= coloring sheet, anatomy book, picture book, Reineke to help you construct the skeletal muscle from the given materials. You must represent the following in your model: • Fasicles (bundle of muscle cells (fibers)) (covered in perimysium)- total of 1 per table • Muscle cells (aka: muscle fibers)- 7 per fasicle • myofibril (a muscle cell organelle composed of…) • Myofilaments- color chenille rods to show myosin & actin • As a class we will then build a section of Skeletal muscle (covered in epimysium-ie paper)
