  2. Space Figures Lesson 10-4 p.521

  3. Space Figures • A space figure is a 3-dimensional figure. We commonly think of cubes, prisms, and spheres and cylinders. Rectangular prism Triangular prism

  4. Space figures Cylinder Square prism (cube)

  5. Space figures • To name a space figure, we firstlook at the shape of the base. There are two of them. • If the base is a square, the space figure is a square prism. • If the base is a triangle, the space figure is a triangular prism, • If the base is a circle, the space is a cylinder.

  6. Try This • Name the following space figures:

  7. Try This • Name the following space figures: Triangular Prism

  8. Try This • Name the figure:

  9. Try This • Name the figure: Cylinder

  10. Try This • Name the figure:

  11. Try This • Name the figure: Trapezoidal prism

  12. Space Figures and Nets • If you could take a space figure such as a square prism, and take it apart so that is lies flat, you would have a shape called a net • For example: This is a square prism. . .

  13. Nets • And here is one way to draw the net:

  14. Nets • Here is a triangular prism:

  15. Nets • Here is a triangular prism: And below is the net: Notice the triangles are the bases

  16. Try This • Draw the net for this figure:

  17. Try This The blue rectangles are the bases.

  18. Try This • Draw the net for this cylinder:

  19. Try This • Draw the net for this cylinder: It is important to see that a cylinder is 2 circles and a rectangle.
