Project Narrative: Throughout this year you have learned how to take better photos. You have learned about the elements of art, principles of design, as well as composition, point of view, and lighting to create interesting images rather than just snapshots. You have learned how to edit and improve your photos after they have been taken. For your final photo project this year you will be expected to put everything you have learned together – while also telling a personal story about you.
You will be asked to recall dreams or memories that are important to you. 3 of these dreams/memories must be created and edited for this project. They must communicate a story about you, that gives insight as to who you are as a person. You will be required to create a writing assignment that goes with the images to explain the moments they are associated with and explain how they are important to who you are as a person.
Objective: • Students will use digital cameras to capture images that represent their dreams or memories. • Students must capture/create 3 images to hand in • Images can be manipulated with camera settings and/or Photoshop for a heightened sense of drama • Of the 3 images, they can all be new photos OR a combination of new photos, with old ones. They cannot all be old photos (scanned from home) • Students must write an artist statement to explain and support their thought process and work created.
(Hints: Black and White, Sepia Tone, Blur, Vignette, Fading, Rough Edges, Scratches, Textures, Contrast…all of these can help to contribute to a feeling of age, memory rather than reality) (Hints: Black and White, Sepia Tone, Blur, Vignette, Fading, Rough Edges, Scratches, Textures, Contrast…all of these can help to contribute to a feeling of age, memory rather than reality)
The Challenge: is to not only come up with good ideas and interesting photos, but to be creative. Throughout the year I have given you a lot of information on how to edit photos. There is a wealth more of information available on the internet. BE CREATIVE! Use the internetto teach you new techniques, things that we may not have learned. Challenge yourself to try something new and out of your comfort zone. Do research at home, come up with ideas, and find examples online – YOU CANNOT ACCESS MUCH HERE AT SCHOOL. Collect your ideas and make your plans at home, where you have access to this information.
Moral of the story…I will not give requirements on how to edit or what these should look like, I want to see how creative you are and what you have learned. This is one of your last projects, wow me!
Artist Statement:a brief verbalrepresentation (descriptive, or reflective in nature) created by the artist about his or her own work. This must be typed and printed for grading on the project grading day. Here are the Content • Requirements for this artist statement: • Explain the dreams/memories shown and what they depict • Explain how these dreams/ memories are important to you personally and who you are as a person • Talk about your experience with this project. What did you like? What didn’t you like? • How do you feel about your finished work? • Explain what you want the viewer to experience when viewing this piece. Project Grading Criteria and Artist Statement Criteria is given in the packet. Look and see how you will be graded!
