EU FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES Most of the EU funding is paid via the national or regional authorities of the EU member states. Some of the EU funding is paid by the European Commission directly to the beneficiaries like universities, NGOs, businesses, interest groups. Some of the EU funding goes to beneficiaries outside the European Union, either directly or in partnership with an EU-based organisation.

LIFELONG LEARNING PROGRAMME Managed by DG Education & Culture Budget: nearly €7 billion (2007-2013) LLP integrates various educational and training initiatives: Comenius for schools Erasmus for higher education Grundtvig for adult education Leonardo da Vinci for vocational education and training Jean Monnet for teaching on European integration
LIFELONG LEARNING PROGRAMME • Relevant Lifelong Learning programmes: • Leonardo da Vinci enables VET organisations to work with European partners, exchange best practices, increase the expertise of staff and respond to the teaching and learning needs of people. • Grundtvig focuses on the teaching and study needs of those in adult education and alternative education streams, as well as the institutions and organisations delivering these services. • Comenius focuses on the development ofschool education systems, in particular the education and training of teachers, language learning, ICT, maths, science and technology, etc…
DAPHNE PROGRAMME • Managed by DG Justice and Home Affairs • Budget: € 109 Mn (2007-2013) • Objective: to contribute to the protection of children, young people and women against all forms of violence by facilitating trans-national and multisectoral action; • Violence is understood in a wide sense, from sexual abuse to domestic violence, from commercial exploitation to bullying in schools, from trafficking to discrimination-based violence against people with disabilities, minorities, migrants or other vulnerable people.
DAPHNE PROGRAMME • Priorities for 2007: • Treatment programmes for perpetrators of violence against children, young people and women; • National legislation in Europe relating to violence; • Targeted awareness raising, education and info; • Studies, mapping and research; • Indicators and related data collection; • Extraction of policy issues from work achieved by Daphne-funded projects; • Exchange, adaptation and use of existing good practices.
EUROPEAN SOCIAL FUND Managed by DG Employment & Social Affairs Budget: over € 76 billion (2007-2013) 2 Objectives: Convergence: help the least-developed Member States and regions catch up with the EU average by improving the conditions for growth and employment; Regional competitiveness and employment: anticipate economic and social changes, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and develop inclusive labour markets in the rest of the EU.
EUROPEAN SOCIAL FUND • Priorities for ESF: • Adaptability of workers and enterprises; • Access to employment, prevention of unemployment and support to active ageing; • Social inclusion of disadvantaged people; • Enhanced human capital through the reform of education and training systems; • Promotion of good governance and the involvement of social partners.
