Up to date and local (Welsh) is good. Introduction– what do you understand by the question? What is the command word? What are you going to include Proof read the final version. – 2 minutes in the exam. G3 essays – points to remember Try to include a sketch map or diagram if relevant. A sketch map of the s. Wales industrial region would suit this essay. Put it in the main part – annotate it with key points and link it into the essay. Make sure you have a conclusion that makes broad evaluative judgements. Use specialist terms e.g. deindustrialisation, tertiarisation, industrial inertia, quaternary industry, grants and subsidies. Stay focussed on the command word e.g. evaluate – throughout the essay – not just in the final conclusion

E.g. inward investment – Continental Teves at EV. LG in Newport – WDA. Cardiff Bay by CBDC. Ebbw Vale Enterprise Artea 2013 – The Works, Penn Pharma, Stuctured by Time going by. Environmental change, tourism, infrastructure (roads) too. Conclusion – SW a deindustrialised region – traditional heavy industries like iron and steel have gone. Successes in coastal plain e.g. Cardiff Bay but who gained? Still issues in upper Valleys hence EV Enterprise area. WAG responsible now. WDA failed with LG – ever changing global patterns. Environmental success – upskill workforce – ‘Knowledge economy’ of the future not heavy industry. Examine the ways by which regions suffering from deindustrialisation attempt to revive regional economies. [25] Assess how successful different measures have been – as you write about them. Remember to use specialist terms – growing tertiarisation of the economy.. Use the sketch map of south Wales – annotate generally and label your case studies.
