Design Applications APPLICATION… • Support of excavation for tunnel roof Patented reinforced jet grouting was used to construct a continuous secant wall for a 18 foot deep support of excavation system directly adjacent to live tracks and diesel locomotives within Boston’s busy North Station commuter rail facility. The patented system was used in lieu of contract designed drilled soldier piles, lagging and permeation grouting.

  4. Design Applications INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES… • Unlimited headroom – single step process, using patented reinforced jet grouted columns • Limited headroom – two step process, installing drilled micropiles and jet grouting between piles

Design Applications SIGNIFICANCE… • Created retaining structure as a solid unit, although the mechanics of the soil were the greatest obstacle in the design. • The use of jet grouting offers more homogenous soil properties, with clearly stated soil characteristics. • Drilled micropiles continue to absorb the stress.
