Community Policing • Norfolk Police Dept. (NPD) • Community Resource Officers Coordination • Patrol Division Realignment • Integration of Community Policing into Daily Operations
Community Policing • Based on community input and activities of the past 6-9 months, RPOS Division of Open Space Planning & Development performed a CPTED Analysis of Stockley Gardens • CPTED = Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design
Community Policing • CPTED is based on the theory that the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the incidence and fear of crime and in an improvement in the quality of life • Design Strategies are being developed • RPOS, NPD and City Manager’s Office will coordinate to bring recommendations to Ghent community
Community Outreach • Over the past two months the Office to End Homelessness & Community Services Board in collaboration with NPD increased outreach efforts in Ghent areas of concern and other “hot spots” • Daily intervention has been required at Maury Park specifically over the past 2-3 weeks and frequency of site visits by outreach workers increased • M-F - Once a week now twice daily • S-S - Once a weekend now once each day
Community Building • Community input and participation will be needed in November - December for consideration of CPTED strategy recommendations, budgetary considerations and potential implementation • Consideration and planning for programming and events in Stockley Gardens in 2013
