Part I LLP Academic Networks
I. LLP Academic Networks Academic Networks are designed to promote innovation in a specific discipline, set of disciplines or multidisciplinary area, e.g.: law, literature, economics, etc. They are an action of the EU- Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) - 2006
They contribute to enhancing quality of teaching in higher education, defining and developing a European dimension within a given academic discipline, furthering innovation and exchanging methodologies and good practices. This is achieved by means of cooperation within the network between higher education institutions, university faculties and departments and may also involve professional associations and enterprises as well as other associations. Networks are subdivided two sub-actions: 1 - Academic Networks: to promote innovation in a specific discipline, set of disciplines or multidisciplinary area, e.g.: law, literature, economics, etc. They require participation of at least 31 institutions from all 31 LLP participating countries; I. LLP Academic Networks
2 - Structural Networks: to help improve and modernise a specific aspect of higher education organisation, management, governance or funding. They require participation of at least 5 institutions from 5 different LLP participating countries. I. LLP Academic Networks

II. General presentation and goals EUGENE is an EU Academic Network with the main goal of improving the impact of EEE on • competitiveness, • innovation and • socio-economic growth in a global context Overall aim: Setting–up a top-level “discussion & action” forum to follow the continuous evolution of EE in Europe and enhance its competitive profile worldwide (opening the borders)

Ph. D. STUDIES: Structure and Bologna follow-up in the competitiveness issues Main question: are Ph.D. studies in Engineering and Technology in Europe effective/innovative/competitive enough? Leading: A. Avdelas, (U. Thessaloniki) J. Berlamont (CESAER) III. Activity Lines
B) PROMOTE EE IN EUROPE AS A TRUE RESEARCH FIELD (with comparison of worldwide developments in EER …): a true and innovative research area to improve entrepreneurship, innovation and competitiveness; Leading: A. Kolmos (SEFI/U. Aaalborg), E. De Graaf (TUDelft) III. Activity Lines
C) IMPROVE transnational MOBILITY of engineering students, graduates and professionals Leading: ENAEE/ASIIN : G. Augusti, I. Freeston, I.Wasser, S. Feyo de Azevedo III. Activity Lines
D) LLL & CONTINUING EDUCATION as a tool to improve competitiveness and innovation of European engineers Leading: M. Markkula (SEFI/Aalto University) III. Activity Lines
E) INCREASE ATTRACTIVENESS of studies in science and engineering and to EHERA involve students organisations and promote awareness outside the EU of EE evolution and opportunities; Leading: K. Hawwash (U. Birmingham/SEFI), A. Bursuc(BEST) III. Activity Lines
T1) Direct involvement of industrial stakeholders (European corporate with global dimensions) in all above activities A) to E), with an active contribution Leader: X. Fouger (Dassault Systems) T2) Promote the establishment of the standing European Engineering Deans Council (as an liaison body with the newly established GEDC). Leaders: JC Quadrado (ISEL) – F. Côme (SEFI) T3) Identify and put in practice sustainability tools beyond the 3 years of life of the TN, by means of: 1) ensuring visibility through an interactive web-site, 2) set-up a frequently updated “repository” of guidelines for the enhancement of EEE visibility world-wide, 3) foster the creation of a “Florence EE Group/Network”.
