    1. Big Lottery Fund programmes ‘Bringing about real change to communities and to the lives of those most in need’ The aim of this presentation is to give you an overview of the main Big Lottery Fund (BIG) programmes you may be able to apply to for funding with particular emphasis on our Awards For All small grants programme and Reaching Communities – our open programme for awards of between 10,001 and 50,000. It is also designed to give you some insight into who we are as a funder and how we operate. The Big Lottery Fund was formed in June 2004 through the merger of the New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund, and on 1 December 2006 it was officially established by Parliament with the passing of the National Lottery Act 2006. This money is distributed to organisations to deliver projects that help BIG to meet its mission (on the slide) which is to ‘Bring about real change to communities and to the lives of those most in need’. It is important that you are aware that demand across all the Big Lottery Fund's programmes continues to be high. Even good projects can be unsuccessful in seeking funding, due to the volume of applications BIG receives.
