  2. Setting • The story takes place on an island in Mexico.

  3. Characters • Karana • Nanko • Ramo • Chief Matasaip • 3 Sailors

  4. Beginning • The family was moving from the island because a storm was coming to the island. Ramo left his spear. When he went back to get his spear, the people on the boat left him.

  5. Middle • Karana realized that her brother was left behind, so she swam back to the island to save him. She also got left on the island with Ramo.

  6. End • Karana and Ramo were on the island, and waited for a boat to come to save them from the island. They never got saved.

  7. Theme • You should forgive your enemies. • Families should always stay together.
