Videoconference Dialogue at the WB institute. Kenya HIV/AIDS private sector business council presentation on 21-3-2007
KHBC • Started in the year 2000 • Has an advisory board and a management board. • Managed from a secretariat by 5 staff. • Is a member organization with 150 member companies.
KHBC Partners. • KHBC has over the years developed many partners some of who are; • GBC, NIBUCA and other BC, KAM, HCDA, NACC, GTZ/ACCA, PEPFAR,GFTM, Companies like Merck foundation, Tetra pak, GMEA, GSK among others.
Successful programs • Developed policy, trained HR managers on management of WPP in partnership of KAM. That was done in four regions in kenya. • Training of medical professionals of the management of HIV/AIDS using ARV in partnership with Merck sharp and Dolme. • Developed and distributed IEC material on private sector specific issues. That was done with support from the GFATM. • Trained over 2000 peer educators from different companies. • Developed work place program for 20 SMEs with the support of The Merck foundation. • Planed an advocacy conference for Chief executive officers of companies in kenya to inform them about PEPFAR activities.
Difficulties in forming partnerships • Business coalitions are small and many partners want big establishment with big systems. • Lack of resources to march what the other partner want to commit. • Credibility issue more so if there is a Business coalitions anywhere in the world that the partners had a negative experience of.
Advantage of BC to Partners. • Training on a specific issue. • Because of the focus, the training programs are well researched. • Our member companies get valued added programs for our other partners. • By working thro partners like Kenya association of manufacturer or Horticultural crop development authority its is easy to reach more members. • We get different ideas from companies who have parent companies abroad which we then pass to our other members.
