Blood Pathway • Chambers open and close, pushing blood. • When the atrium contracts, blood is pushed to the ventricle.
Blood Pathway • The left ventricle is the largest chamber. • It pumps blood to the whole body when it contracts. Aorta – blood to body LEFT VENTRICLE
Blood Pathway • Once the blood has circulated through the body, it returns to the heart • From upper veins: superior vena cava • From lower veins: inferior vena cava Superior Vena Cava Inferior Vena Cava

Blood Pathway Pulmonary Arteries • The Right ventricle contracts • Blood is pushed through the PULMONARY ARTERY towards the lungs, where it picks up O2 • It then returns to the heart through the pulmonary vein RIGHT ATRIUM RIGHT VENTRICLE
