Do astronauts sleep in a bed?If they don’t, how do they sleep? • Sleeping in space is depended on the requirements of the particular mission • In the first flight astronauts slept in the commander and pilot seats • They want to make sure they are available at all times. • Other crew members sleep in their seats, in sleeping bags or in bunks.
GEORGIAS CONTINUED • The sleeping bags are like cocoon they are strapped to their locker were all of there stuff is stored in. • In microgravity there is no “up” and the astronauts can sleep as comfortably in the position as the horizontal. • A bunked kit was made available by the time of the sts-9 mission crew members could sleep in a three horizontal bunks.
How many hours of sleep they get • In earth we all need beauty sleep, 8 hours is the length of hours we need. • Astronauts sleep 4-8 hours each night • They have to take pills and medicine to make them sleep • Even with the help of medicine they don’t get as much sleep like they would on earth.
How they relax • When they have time to relax they connect with friends and family • They connect either email, ham radio, phones or the internet • They also get packages with CDs ,books, magazines, photos and letters • They say that the most relaxing thing to do is look out into space
