Teens and Their Comfort Levels With Social Internet • It is easier to be honest • It is easier to post things instead of speak them verbally. • It is easier to “talk” to someone they do not know. • It is easier for shy people to have cyber relationships.
Internet Postings Last Forever • Internet postings can be retrieved long after they are first posted. • Internet postings are public. • Employers and college admissions counselors look at student web pages and pages.
Parents Must Stay Informed • Parents must stay on top of technology. • Parents can take classes to learn how to be computer savvy. • Parents must be firm in protecting their children from internet dangers.
Internet Safety Rules • Facial Recognition: if you do not visually recognize the person trying to “friend” you or initiate conversation with you, do not accept. • Never post anything you would not want your parents to read. • Never post pictures that inappropriate and never forward pictures from someone else.
