  5. TORCH HOSES • 3. OXYGEN HOSE IS GREEN • 4. ACETYLENE HOSE IS RED FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY

  6. 5. CUTTING PRESSURE SETTING • RATIO OF 2.5 PSI OF OXYGEN • TO 1 PSI OF ACETYLENE • NEVER OVER 15 PSI OF ACETYLENE • THICKNESS OF METAL AND TIP SIZE DETERMINES PRESSURE

  7. 5 PSI OF ACETYLENE AND 12.5 PSI OXYGEN

  8. OXYACETYLENE WELDING • USES LOWER PRESSURE • 3 PSI ACETYLENE • 7.5 PSI OXYGEN

  9. 6. OPEN OXYGEN CYLINDER • OPEN ALLTHE WAY

  10. 7. OPEN ACETYLENE CYLINDER • NOT MORE THAN1-1/2 TURNS

  11. 8. GAUGES • ON REGULATORS

  12. 9. MANIFOLD TORCH SYSTEM • AT FVSU CYLINDERS OUTSIDE • GASES PIPED INTO MULTIPLE STATIONS

  13. 10. OXYGEN CYLINDERS • RIGHT HAND CONNECTOR THREAD

  14. 11. OXYACETYLENE GOGGLE • #6 FILTER LENS USED FOR TORCH WORK • DON’T BE STUBBURN REMEMBER TO WEAR GOGGLES

  15. 12. CHECKING FOR TORCH LEAKS • USE SOAP AND WATER

  16. 13. HOSE CONNECTIONS • SHOULD BE HAND TIGHT

  17. 14. PARTS OF CUTTING TORCH 6 5 3 2 • 1. CUTTING TIP • 2. MIXING CHAMBER • 3. TORCH HEAD • 4. OXYGEN SET AT TWO PLACES • 5. ACETYLENE AT ONE PLACE • 6. OXYGEN LEVER 1 4

  18. SETTING CUTTING FLAME • WEAR GLOVES & #6 LENS GOGGLES • HOLD TORCH IN BOTH HANDS • USE NEUTRAL FLAME • TOO MUCH ACETYLENE SENDS FLAME AWAY FROM TIP • TOO LITTLE CAUSES BLACK SMOKE

  19. OBTAINING NEUTRAL FLAME • 1. OPEN ACETYLENE 1/2 TURN • 2. USE STRIKER TO LIGHT • 3. OPEN OXYGEN SLOWLY UNTIL FLAME IS NEUTRAL Flame Tip

  20. CUTTING PROCEDURE • PREHEAT UNTIL CHERRY RED • PRESS OXYGEN LEVER • MOVE STEADLY ACROSS METAL • IF YOU MOVE TOO FAST CUTTING STOPS AND MUST PREHEAT AGAIN

  21. TORCH SAFETY • #6 FILTER LENS • FASTEN CYLINDERS WITH CHAIN • KEEP SAFETY CAPS ON CYLINDERS • CHECK FOR LEAKS WITH SOAPY WATER • NEVER PUT OIL ON EQUIPMENT

  22. SAFETY CONTINUED • OPEN ACETYLENE CYLINDER 1-1/2 TURNS • POINT TIP AWAY FROM YOU AND OTHERS • USE PROPER PRESSURE (LESS THAN 15 PSI) • USE STRIKER NOT MATCHES • NEVER LAY LIGTHED TORCH DOWN

  23. SHUTTING DOWN PROCEDURE • TURN OFF ACETYLENE FIRST AT TORCH • TURN OFF OXYEN AT TORCH • CLOSE CYLINDERS • DRAIN HOSES
