Education Certifications, Internships, Degree Programs
Transformation in Action I’m in a place in my life where life’s challenges sustain me to find my purpose in life. At the age of 42, I remember what it was like for me being addicted to drugs and alcohol for 25 years of my life, now coming up on three years clean I defeat anything negative and look forward to being a better person. Each day I try harder to succeed. I love the person I am, so I try to pass hope off to the next person struggling to find their place in Recovery. I feel good about me, so why not reach out to the next person. Since my last training I’ve published 2 poems and now I’m trying to find job opportunities. Alencia S.

Training People in Recovery, Family Members, Providers, DBHMRS staff, Advocates
Transformation in Action Being able to take new information back to others proved invaluable. To let others know that there is so much more involved in this process, and new opportunities await them, enriched what I currently do. The training fine tuned some of the techniques I use to reach others. I am currently close to a year being employed as a Peer Specialist, Residential Manager and Editor at Northeast Treatment Centers. I also am the editor for a publication sponsored by DBHMRS which will be far more reaching. …I have become more confident, hungry for information and both empowered and inspired. I have unspeakable gratitude. –Thank you. Gilbert G.

Career Development Quality of Work Life, Unit Transformation Plan, MLK partnership
Transformation in Action I am doing well… I even spent the day with the fabulous Patti Labelle, at her I Take Control Concert. She talked to me and it was a blast. Like she said, you’re in control of your life and that’s me, whatever it may be... I am in control. I talked at a Women’s Conference in Mt. Laurel, NJ and for HIV and AIDS in Newark, NJ, at the Marriott Hotel and am still speaking at Temple University and also at the Widener University in Chester about abuse and addictions and that you can recover from whatever you put your mind to. I thank God for all these opportunities. .. I’ve been clean 13 years... I am a survivor… Rose F.
Career Development Quality of Work Life Committee (QWLC) was formed as a way to involve staff in recommending activities related to system transformation as well as create a consciousness about our everyday work environment. Unit Transformation Plan -To promote resilience, recovery and self determination in all DBH units by identifying strengths and setting achievable transformation goals. A DBH/MRS employee joined Martin Luther King (MLK) School’s occupational advisory committee. The committee provides guidance, recommendations, direction and resources to MLK regarding its New Health Related Technology Curriculum. It exposes high school students to Health Care professions.
Employment Vision for Employment 2010, Chamber of Commerce Partnerships, Employment Transformation
Transformation in Action I have claimed my rightful place in society, I’ve found my voice in the community, I’ve discovered my calling and purpose that God had designed for me. But most importantly, I have found my best friend and mentor who is now my fiancée and future wife, so you see, I can’t even begin to tell you about all the beautiful things that being a panelist has done for me, for it has not stopped as of yet. William W.
Employment The Purpose for Vision For Employment 2010 (VFE), created by MRS in partnership with Networks for Training and Development 2006, as a collaborative effort among interested stakeholders: to increase the number of people employed in the community, assume employability for all persons and ensure that all persons who want to work have the opportunity. Chamber of Commerce Partnership-DBH/MRS partnership with The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Employment Transformation -Expanding employment opportunities for people receiving services.
Summary All components of Workforce Development including: Education, Training, Career Development and Employment are meant to provide additional opportunities for people across the behavioral health system. In addition, as the department continues to foster connections with various education, training, career development and employment institutions, there is an excellent opportunity to educate our community partners about the principles of Recovery, Resilience and Self-Determination.
