What do centipedes and millipedes look like? • small animal • worm like bodies • many legs • some are born with all legs and segments • head has antenna (like insects) • tiny mouths • hard outer shell (exoskeleton) enclosing muscles and organs • has airpors (little holes that let in air)
Centipedes and millipedes and their habitat • lives in all warm temperature regions • found underground, under stones, bark and leaf litter • hides in damp, dark and cool human places • likes tropical places
What centipedes and millipedes eat and how they get it • they are carnivores (meat eating animals) • some eat plants and ruin crops • they eat soft bodied insects like, spiders, small lizards and worms • also eats moth larva, maggots and slugs • uses poison to kill prey • some eat and kill each other
How they protect themselves • hides under flat rocks • uses poison in its body to kill its predators and prey • is very fast when being attacked • has an exoskeleton
Interesting facts about centipedes and millipedes • some have simple eyes, but some are blind • if large ones bite you, it may cause pain, fever and swelling for up to 3 weeks • most can bite through human skin • some centipedes glow in the dark
