11th Grade Calendar of Events • Register for the PSAT – October 19, 2012 • Take Career Assessments • Research/visit college campuses – October District College Fair • ASVAB Career Assessment – December 12, 2012 • Charge Ends – December 20, 2012 • Fall Semester Ends – December 21, 2012 • January 8th Spring Semester Begins • January/February – sign up for classes 2013-2014 • Charge sign-ups (January) • January – sign up to take SAT/ACT exams • May 7th thru 18th – AP Exams • Spring Semester Ends – May 31, 2013
HS Graduation Requirements • English 40 credits • Math 20 credits • Algebra 10 credits • Health 2.5 credits • Fine Art/ For Lang 10 credits • Living Science 10 credits • Physical Science 10 credits • World History 10 credits • US History 10 credits • American Gov’t 5 credits • Economics 5 credits • PE 20 credits • Electives 67.5 credits Pass CAHSEE &Total: 220 Credits *Passing Grade = 5 credits *If you fail a class, recover credits in summer school or CHARGE. You must repeat the same semester class you fail.
A-G Requirements A: History/ Social Science 2 Years required B: English 4 years required C: Math 3 years required, 4 years recommended D: Lab Science 2 years required, 3 recommended E: Foreign Language 2 years required, 3 recommended F: Visual and Performing Arts 1 year required G: College Prep Electives 1 year required *** must score a ‘C’ or higher, “D’s” and “F’s” do not count***
Class rank ***Needed should not equal more than 90 credits***
Credit Recovery Options • Charge • Every Quarter • Mon Thru Fri 2:45 - 4:00pm • Your son/daughter was already called in by their counselor • Adult Education • Get a form from your counselor • Classes held at 5703 Skvarla Ave., McClellan • Summer School • May not be offered or limited to only 12th and 11th graders
Looking Ahead • Keep grades up, Volunteer, Get involved • Visit colleges (research colleges) • Look for Scholarships • Meet w/ counselor in the Fall • Make sure you’ve met requirements incl: CAHSEE • Do you need Charge again? • Order Cap and Gown in Oct/Nov • Nov 1 – 30 apply to 4 year colleges • Get letters of Recommendation • Pass the Senior Paper
Looking Ahead(cont’d) • Take SAT/ACT no later than Dec test date of 12th grade • Before January: begin FAFSA and apply for PIN (both parents and students) • Jan 1- March 2 submit FAFSA (sooner the better) • January- check in w/ counselor again • Sign up for Charge, Ad Ed, etc. • AP Tests in May • SAVE $, SAVE $, SAVE $ • Have FUN!!!!!
