2012 National Professional Council • A leadership body of 65 United Way CEOs in the U.S. Chaired by Milton J. Little, Jr., CEO, United Way of Greater Atlanta • Mission • Advise United Way Worldwide’s president and CEO on issues and trends of importance to the United Way network in the U.S. • Serve as the collective voice for the United Way profession • Provide leadership in building the United Way network in the U.S.—both locally and nationally • Serve as a communication link between United Way Worldwide and the U.S. membership • 2012 Priorities • Trust (with the public and within the network) • U.S. Task Force on United Way’s Economic Model and Growth • Field Communication and Engagement • Public Policy and Advocacy U.S. National Professional Council November 2012 Meeting Highlights

Key 2013 Activities for U.S. Network (initial thinking) • Launch the Business Performance Matrix; customize services & supports • Launch United Way Partnerships – High School Graduation, Talent, Corporate Engagement • Organize work streams, resources and critical United Ways for mobilized action to drive impact • Organize work streams, resources, and critical United Ways for high quality corporate & employee engagement • Deploy network-wide talent management strategy in critical markets and critical leadership & functional areas • Enhance knowledge sharing, communication, relationship management, social media, and public/network engagement platforms U.S. National Professional Council November 2012 Meeting Highlights
New Ways of Working Together • Business Performance Matrix • Facilitates collaborations based on similar communities and business practices • Provides all United Ways with organic opportunities to partner • Allows for targeted delivery of supports and services to drive local execution • Aligns segmentation to the full United Way Business model • Performance Partnerships • Provides coaching and structure for more formal Partnerships • Brings cultural foundation to life • Open to all United Ways; only 30-50 are expected to join in round 1 • Learning will be shared network-wide • Additional Partnerships will be launched in future years engaging more United Ways U.S. National Professional Council November 2012 Meeting Highlights

NPC Advocacy Guidelines Overview • A group has been formed to develop guidelines for advocacy within the network • Peter Manzo, Council of State Associations Chair is leading the group • The goal is to point out what system citizenship requires (basic expectations), and recommended practices • The final product will be shared with NPC at the next NPC meeting U.S. National Professional Council November 2012 Meeting Highlights
Brand Licensing and the Store • Staples to become national provider, replacing United Way Store • Staples Promotional Products (SPP) will offer lower prices (avg. of 30% less in comparison tests), more products and services • United Ways can use local vendors licensed by United Way Worldwide • United Way Worldwide will handle all paperwork and licensing fee management directly with vendors • United Ways will be able to continue purchasing any paper products considered communication materials from unlicensed vendors.
