  1. PROMISE 2008 Gary D. Boetticher Tim Menzies Tom Ostrand Guenther Ruhe Bridging Industry and Research

  2. PROMISE 2008 • Theme: Bridging Industry & Research • Much more data added to the PROMISE Repository • Special issue Empirical Software Engineering • Workshop expanded to 2 days • 2 Keynote speakers • More opportunities for discussion • More opportunities for collaboration • 1 New Steering Committee Member: Guenther Ruhe • 1 Fabulous Dinner May 12, 2008 The 4th International Predictor Models in Software Engineering (PROMISE) Workshop

  3. Theme: Bridging Industry & Research Industry perspective • To what extent does industry embrace research findings and models? • Why is it not more? • Is research relevant?  practical?  capable of application?  ultimately beneficial? • Are industry folks uninformed? lazy? too busy? Is the ROI too low? Research perspective • Is SE research aligned with industry needs? • Does it need to be or is it just a ‘tenure’ thing? • Is empirical research unrealistic? • Too specific? Too complex? Obsolete? • How can models be validated? • Correlation? Yes!! Causal? Maybe May 12, 2008 The 4th International Predictor Models in Software Engineering (PROMISE) Workshop
