Overview • 2005: • Jun - proposal presented at COMPRES annual meeting • Oct – proposal submitted, eight PIs: Wang, Lesher, Green, Fei, Shen, Agee, Durham, Manghnani • 2006: • Feb – proposal granted • Oct - fund arrived to Univ. Chicago • 2007: • Design and drafting • Jun – design presented at annual meeting with PI’s feedback • Design work continued • 2008: • Apr – bids obtained • May – vendor selection completed • Oct/Nov – expected delivery
Rockland Research: Module • PO placed end of April, 2008 • 40% deposit at PO, May, 2008 • $38,898.80 • 60% balance 10 days after user acceptance ~Oct, 2008 • $58348.20 • Initial meeting on site, May 12, 2008 • Week 1-13: machining parts • Week 14: 2nd visit, inspect guide blocks, assembled parts • Week 15-21: resolve any assembly conflicts • Week 21: 3rd visit, test assembly prior to shipping • Week 23: Uncrate assembly at APS
Budget • Funds: • COMPRES: $68,000 • GSECARS: $68,000 • DDIA-30 module cost: ~$97,500 • Balance of $38,500: • Design and build differential ram controllers and DDIA-30 transport table • Modify 1000 ton press module transport table
Additional design and modification • Design and build: • Two differential ram pressure controllers • Each with 200 cc capacity, 30,000 psi • Transport table for DDIA-30 module (500 kg) • Electronics and software • Modify: • 1000 ton transport table • Replace ball-bearing table top with rails/turn table
Estimated schedule: • DDIA-30 Transport table: • Design done in July • Construction complete in Oct • 1000 ton press table: • Design done in July/Aug • Construction complete in Nov • DDIA-30 module: • Delivered Oct/Nov • Test end of Nov or beginning of Dec, through Jan, ‘09 • System ready for community Feb/Mar 2009
