EX: Line color, values, shapes we can use sight to recognize, texture is touch • Formal Properties: are the principles of art that help us see how artist organize the elements of art to express their ideas effectively • What are the PRINCIPLES? • unity, balance, contrast, rhythm, pattern, emphasis and visual movement

  6. Technical Properties • Technical Properties are the media, tools and equipment used to make the work of art • For example ceramics, oil painting, bronze casting and charcoal drawing all rely on different technical skills

Expressive Properties • Expressive properties are the characteristics of an artwork that cause us to respond to it with feeling and emotion • Ex: Paintings might express moods of tension, relation or sadness through color, metaphor, symbolism.
