Masculine nouns Generally are those that: • End in letter –O (there are some exceptions like the words, la mano-the hand, la foto-the picture, are feminine) • Refer to a male beings (el padre-the father, el chico-the boy). • Days of the week, months and numbers are masculine also. Examples: el lunes, el abril, el uno.
Masculine nouns Continuation: • There is a group of nouns of Greek origin ending in –ma, -ta, -pa, which are masculine also. Examples: el problema-the problem, el planeta-the planet, el mapa-the map. • Names of rivers, seas, oceans, lakes, mountains and volcanoes are also masculine.
Feminine nouns • Are generally those that: • End in letter –A (exception for el día-the day is masculine) • Other endings for feminine nouns are • ción - ie • sión - umbre • dad • tad • tud
