Entry Task • Journal Entry • If you could “migrate” to any place in the world, where would you go? • What factors led you to chose that destination? • Climate (Sunny, Snowy) • Jobs • People • Activities (ie Surfing, shopping etc) • Write one paragraph (3-5 sentences)
The Ice Age (Not the cartoon) • Huge sheets of ice covered a good portion of the earth’s surface. • Land Bridge between Alaska and Asia was used to migrate.
Stone Age Broken Down • Paleolithic (Early Stone Age) • Primitive weapons • Caves • Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age) • Bow and arrow • Canoes • Dogs for hunting • Neolithic (New Stone Age) • Advanced Tools • Ended when people began making tools out of metal
Agriculture (or farming) • Shift from food gathering to food producing • Domestication- changing plants or animals to make them more useful to humans
Animals • Hunters didn’t chase after food, they began to keep animals for food. • Using animals to help produce food improved the chance of survival
Farming Changed Society • People used plant fibers and domesticated sheep’s wool to create clothing • People built permanent settlements • Population began to grow • Religion boomed • Megaliths- huge stone monuments used for religious reasons
