  1. Warm Up: What could you do with excellent writing skills? Thursday 11/7 Turn in one 12 oz. can of food for the NGHS food bank and receive 10 late work passes. Two can max!

  2. Objective: I will be able to write a persuasive paragraph by comparing the factors that contributed to the fall of Rome with current events in the United States. • Language Objective: I will be able to form an opinion based on the readings and discussions in my group.

  3. To Do in Class Today: 1. Finish reading the ten theories on the fall of Rome. 2. Complete your graphic organizer comparing the fall of Rome to the possible Fall of the United States. 3. After you have completed the graphic organizer, complete the persuasive paragraph. (next slide) 4. Turn in your completed graphic organizer and completed paragraph by 11/8.

  4. Exit Ticket (Yes! This is for points!) • Write a persuasive paragraph about why you do or do not think the United States will fall due to similar reasons that Rome fell. Form an opinion based on the readings and your discussions. • Your paragraph should contain: • Thesis statement (topic sentence). • Three or more connections from the readings, with explanations. • Excellent concluding sentence. • Your thesis statement could start like this: • The United States will fall due to similar reasons Rome fell because… OR • The United States will not fall due to similar reasons Rome fell because…. * Bonus Points for writing an excellent paragraph that starts with a topic statement that you have created!
