Study Japanese 1 in Fall 2019 or Winter 2020. Study Japanese 2 in Spring 2020. After that, you’re ready to enroll in Japanese 8 in Summer 2020!
What will I study in Japan? • A total of 6 units for your SMC transcripts: • Japanese 8 (Conversational Japanese—2 units) (Week 1 at SMC, weeks 2-4 in Japan. • Japanese 99 (Experiential Learning in Japanese--1 unit) (Week 1 at SMC, weeks 2-4 in Japan. • And • ECE 11 (Child, Family, and Communication --3 units) A hybrid course (Week 1 at SMC, weeks 2-6 online). • Or • Business 30 (Customer Relation Management --3 units) Online.
How long will I be in Japan? Where will I stay? • This intensive summer program includes three weeks of study in Japan, one week of study at SMC, and six weeks of online study for a total of six weeks of summer study. • SMC students will stay in student residences in Tokyo for most of their three-week stay. • SMC students will spend one weekend living with a Japanese family.

Education at BUNKYO GAKUIN UNIVERSITY • The Child Development Department • The department boasts a history of more than 40 years and has produced many aspiring teachers and childcare experts. The Early Childhood Education (ECE) program offers students an opportunity to obtain teaching licenses for nursery schools, kindergartens and elementary schools. It is a career-orientated program that prepares students to be effective teachers for young children, from their birth to age 12. Practical experience is a significant part of the program. Students have the opportunity to observe and work with infants, toddlers and preschoolers in a parenting support center or a kindergarten on site, applying theories and techniques taught in the classroom. The department also places an emphasis upon psychology education, pre-kindergarten through 6th grade instructional methods and the development of communication skills that can be used in teacher-student relationships as well as teacher-parent relationships. Students of the ECE program learn about the education of children and study early childhood development, children with special needs, nutrition, children's literature and child psychology.
Meet College Students who Will Teach English at Middle Schools and High Schools in Japan The English Education Course is offered for students who desire to become involved in the world of English language education as junior high and high school English teachers, at examination preparation schools or even in the English language publishing sector. The course provides opportunities to learn about theories of English education, the development of teaching materials and teaching methods. Students also have the opportunity to gain hands-on teaching experience in practicing their skills either at the Child Language Education Center or Bunkyo Gakuin University Girls' Junior and Senior High Schools.
