Background Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a writer. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 22, 1859 Received a medicine degree in Edinburgh university. He wrote the novel, A Study in Scarlet which was the introduction of the detective, Sherlock Holmes. He used his experience as a doctor in his books. The success of these stories resulted in Doyle leaving medicine and getting into writing.
Contribution to Forensics -His Sherlock Holmes stories described the techniques used in crime investigation from his time. Examples are: Finger printing Foot printing - Sherlock Holmes could be the first criminalist or forensic scientist.
