  1. Presentation Rules

  2. Objectives • Students will collaborate in small student groups to create and present facts to answer the question, should a corporation be a good investment?

  3. Rules • Company must be publicly traded (SEC filings provide information that we will need in our presentations). • Each group in each class period must present on different companies (there are thousands to choose from). • Facts and presentation style matter.

  4. Grading • There will be 8 points that you will be graded on. Each element will be worth 12 ½ pts each. • Excellent = 12.5 pts • Reasonably good = 8 pts • Defendable but multiple weaknesses = 4 pts • Missing or glossed over (rushed, poor) = 0 pts

  5. 8 Elements of grades • 1. History or background of the company – tell the story of what we are talking about. Who were the founders? How did they grow? How long have they been around? • 2. Who are the main competitors? Where does your company rank among the competition? Who is rising and who is falling?

  6. 8 Elements of grading • 3. Who are the companies present leaders? What can you tell us about their style or personalities that may impact the company? • 4. What are some recent trends that may be affecting your company? How are they responding to recession? What else is going on right now and in the near future that your company is responding to or preparing for?

  7. 8 Elements of Grading • 5. Financial Analysis – What are the trends for your company’s profits (cash flow), reinvestment (building or hiring trend), and other relatable financial numbers that show if company is growing stronger or weaker? • You will find information on this in the company’s financial statements available in SEC Filings. You may have to look in more than one statement to find trends.

  8. 8 Elements of Grading • 6. What do the analysts who cover your company say about investing in it right now? Are they bullish, neutral, or bearish about your company and its competitors? • 7. Presentation appearance – How does your slide show look? Did you choose colors and images consistent with your company’s themes? Avoid using too many words (text) in your slides.

  9. 8 Elements of Grade • 8. Presentation points in speech – How well you communicate with your audience…key points here include making eye contact with audience, speaking clearly, knowing your information without having to read verbatim, and selling your ideas (positive or negative towards your company are ok as long as you present factual reasons behind them).
