Group 15 • Atrovastatin: Also called Lipitor, this drug is in a class of medications called HMG-CoAreductase (an enzyme found in liver tissue that plays a key role in production of cholesterol in the body) inhibitors, or “statins.”  It works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the body • Nifidipine: This is a calcium channel blocker that best acts as an antihypertensive and antianginal medication. A calcium channel blocker acts to decreases intracellular calcium leading to a reduction in smooth muscle contraction, ultimately leading to vasodilation.  • Hydrochlorothiazide:  Also called the “water pill,” this medication acts as a diuretic that acts on the kidneys to reduce sodium resorption in the distal convoluted tubule. It is often prescribed for treatment of hypertension
