Cancerous Lump Aretaics Investigated CLAI Travis Hill BilalGhalib
Executive Summary The Story: CLAI is a game set in a murky world where danger lurks at every turn. You are Mr. Moore, an everyday blob going about your daily business. But this morning, you are rudely awoken by a knife piercing the roof. Today something is different. A chaotic apocalyptic attitude has engulfed the world. People have gone mad, fires everywhere, and suicides, too many to count. To make matters worse, you suddenly have enemies at every corner trying to KILL YOU?! What can you do in a situation like this except run, but there are no answers to be found anywhere. Moving around the world and interacting with people you once thought were your friends, your destiny seems to unfold. But do you have it in you to do what is necessary to save the world from destroying itself?
Strategies and Motivations This game is an Action RPG, where first and foremost, your goal is to protect yourself by escaping the acid being thrown at you, dodging the radio wave brain-fryers, and evading giant knives that come from above. But if you are successful at this most elementary survival, you must ask you friends and enemies questions so you can get to the bottom of what's driving the world so mad!
Appearance This is a two dimensional side-scrolling game set inside the human body with intestines and nodules sticking out at intervals. You control Mr. Moore and roll him about his world. He can roll, jump, and throw clumps of his body at enemies. Mr. Moore and certain game elements will be modeled from clay and photographed on a green screen while the backgrounds will generally be slides taken from medical books. Gravity implementation has not yet been decided.
Player Roles and Actions Using the WASD keys you can control the direction of motion. The space bar will have him jump, helping him get from platform to platform, and shift will have him toss a bit of his body in the direction he faces. There is only one character you control, his name is Mr. Moore, and as the main character you discover the world around you by interrogating and piecing together clues.
Level Summary/Story Progression • Level 1: • You wake up early in the morning because a GIANT BLADE has just smashed the roof of your house. Running outside you see the world has gone dark and insane. You have small white cells attacking you as you leave, if you kill them all and go back to assess your house, you see a broken picture of you and the heart at a lake. So you resolve to visit your old friend.
Level Summary/Story Progression • Level 2: • Taking the highway you have to pick between arteries and veins, if you pick right when you solve the maze you get to the heart. You talk with the heart and he is sympathetic, but when he goes to get you some tea he discretely calls the police and tries to keep you long enough to get killed. Shocked and unsure who to trust you go on the lamb.
Level Summary/Story Progression • Level 3: • You’re on the streets now, going as far away from your home in the pancreas as possible. Along the way you meet up with a rambling idiot on the streets who sounds like he's talking crazy. "A body suicide. Rome-Rome, so engorged. CEASAR! What you’ve got to understand is that it’s what’s inside that can’t correct itself. It’s on the inside, and you can’t see them. What a ridiculous internal poison.” You try to make sense by talking to this man, but he keeps spewing what you take to be schizophrenic madness. You decide to go as far as possible to the outreaches of the body, to the cave of solitude, the ear canal. While you chill in this place you overhear a strange out-of-body conversation. You believe it to be the mythical Doc of which the ancients spoke. You remember hearing old stories about the wrathful Doc taking organs and limbs as retribution. And this conversation about malignant tissue in the pancreas and the need to remove the entire organ seemed to authenticate those old fears. Fearing for the well being of your friends, you decide to go back into town in the pancreas to warn them of the upcoming amputation.
Level Summary/Story Progression • Level 4: • You get to the Pancreatic City and all your friends are hiding. You find some of them but they don’t want to talk to you, they’re afraid. You realize that you don’t have much time left, the doctor said they’d have to operate immediately due to the severity of the inflammation…
Level Summary/Story Progression • The game then forks: • Then you realize something, that through each day you’ve been gaining size… that you were the inflammation the doctor was talking about. You call out to your friends with your now booming voice telling them to flee the pancreas, and that you will have to die and go away for their safety. A sacrifice of sorts. • You realize that you’re the source of the inflammation, so you realize now that you’re powerful… A cancer! A mythical creature that could propagate infinitely without fear of death by apoptosis. With this you decide to multiply and metastasize to all parts of the body, AHHAHAHHAAA!
