StaffandClefs • A staff is made up of five horizontal lines and four spaces. • A clef is a musical symbol placed at the beginning of the staff that determines the letter names of the lines and spaces. • Treble clef and Bass clef are main clefs. Bass clef (Fclef) Treble Clef (Gclef)
Noteand Rest • Our music system has seven notes. • If we add a dot to a note its duration will increase by half its own value. Triplet Ties

KeySignatures • Key signatures are the flats or sharps you see after the clef. Whena Sharp orFlatis added to a note it raises or lowers the note by a Half-step. Naturals are notes without sharps or flats.
Wholeand Half steps • A whole stepcontains two half steps. • The distance between each note is known as a half step.
Scale • Scaleis a series of notes selected among these twelve notes. Scale C major (basic scale). Scale D major with two sharps. Scale F major with one flat.
Timesignatures • The time signature is indicated at the beginning of the measure using two numerals: • The upper number indicates the number of beats in the measure, 3 in this case. • The lower number indicates the note that will occupy one beat.
Intervals • An interval measures the distance between two notes. • Prime/First - c to c • Second - c to d • Third - c to e • Fourth - c to f • ….etc
CHords • Three or more notes simultaneously sounded form a chord.
