Face-to-face communications • Some experts claim that face-to-face is the only true form of communication. It is certainly the oldest and the one that is most hard-wired into human beings’ brains.
Missing out • Without face-to-face communication, it is easy to miss the message because a lot of the information that we get when we communicate is from non-verbal cues such as: • posture and body language • tone of voice • facial expressions
One-to-one or one-to-many • Face-to-face communication, whether one-to-one or one-to-many, also provides good opportunities for two-way exchanges of thoughts, opinions, feelings and ideas.
How must we…… Talk to clients and show them that we can • listen empathetically ? • care? • support them with their problems?
And remember: • We all feel the same but we do not all necessarily respond in the same way to similar situations • different people may show their feelings in many different ways.
For our protocol folder we need: • Words and phrases we could use • Facial expressions we should use • Body language we must use
Dear Teens for Teens I am very concerned about the recent YouGov survey of almost 2,000 British teens. This survey found that out of all the teens they interviewed those that: • have had sex under the age of consent = 66% • have had a sexual experience aged 13 or younger = 20% • having had sex without a condom =50% • do not know that there is no cure for Aids=17% It is urgent that you get young people into your centre and educate them as soon as possible. They really need your help. They need helpful dialogue and an opportunity for guidance, a place where they can think and make wise and careful decisions.
