MONIPULO OIL & GAS ROUNDTABLE . VIRTUAL GAS PIPELINES – A REALITY : CASE-STUDY OF TOTALSUPPORT’S CNG INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT IN PORTHARCOURT BY UBANI NKAGINIEME – Ph.D TOTALSUPPORT ENERGY GROUP
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Nigeria has abundant natural gas resources. However the pipeline infrastructure to evacuate produced(associated & non-associated) gases is very limited to small clusters in Lagos, Portharcourt, Aba, Ota, Agbara, Ajaokuta, Ikot-Abasi, Benin. A few other clusters like Calabar is in the works.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Natural gas fuels are inherently cheaper and much cleaner than other existing fossil-fuel sources like diesel, gasoline, fuel-oil. In view of the above, a national and holistic shift to cheaper and cleaner natural gas fuels makes economic and environmental sense.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Forward thinking companies like Dufil Prima Foods Plc(Indomie), IMI, and Schlumberger are already switching to natural gas fuels
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Being a Clean Energy Company, we are pioneering this Private Industry effort in Nigeria, especially in the Niger-Delta We have just delivered the First Truly Nigerian CNG Infrastructure in spite of unimaginable challenges.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION Gas Receiving This project receives pipeline gas from the Shell gas node at Eleme Junction Portharcourt. The received gas is passed through a Customer Station(CS) to be filtered and prepared for compression.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION Gas Compression The pipeline gas received at a pressure of up to 70bars is further compressed to 250bars and loaded into gas transport modules(GTM).
CUSTOM ATLAS-COPCO COMPRESSORS AT MOTHER STATION
PROJECT DESCRIPTION Gas Transport The gas transport modules then moves the compressed gas to DUFIL premises at Choba – Pht(~30 Klm) … where there is no pipeline infrastructure.
GTM TRUCKS AT DUFIL DAUGHTER STATION
INSIDE A GTM TANK
PROJECT DESCRIPTION Gas Consumption At DUFIL-Choba, the compressed gas in the GTM is consumed after reducing the pressure to the required consumption pressure(3Bar) --- hence the need to have PRMS(Pressure reducing & metering station) at DUFIL. The gas is then fed to Dufil gas generators and Steam Boilers

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Operational Experience in Niger Delta Totalsupport Group is essentially a child of the Niger-Delta. We are headquartered in Portharcourt. Since starting operations with Schlumberger in 1990, Niger-Delta has remained our primary area of operation and focus.
THANK YOU QUESTIONS PLS
APPROACH ZERO-FLARE BELOW 5 SLIDES ARE PICTURES OF WHAT WE MUST NOTENCOURAGE BY DOING NOTHING
APPROACH ZERO-FLARE Nigeria currently ranks #2 in the global list of “Worst-Emissions-Footprint” …. Only Siberia-Russia is worse.
NIGERIA EMISSIONS PROFILE : 2009-2012
RUSSIAN EMISSIONS PROFILE : 2009-2012 CDM = CLEAN DEVELOPMENT MECHANISM CNG = COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS LNG = LIQUIFIED NATURAL GAS GTM = GAS TRANSPORT MODULE AGG = ASSOCIATED GAS GATHERING F162007 = Red F141998 = Green F101992 = Blue Vectors drawn on gas flares. 3 of 4
AHIA FLOWSTATION(UMUDIOGA) - NPDC
EBOCHA FLOWSTATION - AGIP
WHAT WE WASTE !! Nigeria flares about 2.1Billion scf of gas daily. This is equivalent to wasting over 6,500MW of electricity or fueling over 1,000,000 commercial vehicles daily. At Flow-Station pricing … this represents an annual wastage of over $1.5Billion.
Some NoxEmissions Effects In Niger-Delta Acid rain leading to degraded & disappearing farm/fishery/livestock yields Polluted & noxious air leading to dramatic increase in cases of asthma, cancer, skin & respiratory diseases
A BETTER OUTCOME IS POSSIBLE
It Must Be Clean The Capstone MicroTurbine approaches the performance of zero-emissions technologies, but at a fraction of the cost...
