Introduction This project is about Denali national park located in Alaska. This park, also known as Mount McKinley national park, was the first national park to conserve wildlife, back in 1917. Denali is known to hold many different species of many different things, such as 650 species of flowering plants, as well as 39 species of mammals, 167 species of birds, 10 species of fish, and one species of amphibian, but no reptiles.
General Information • Cost per person is $10.00 and $20.00 per vehicle • Primary visitation runs from May 1st to September 15th. Visitation is lowest in the winter months • Mount McKinley is the highest mountain on the north American continent, standing at 20,320 feet • Denali is about 6,028,924 acres big, or slightly bigger than the state of Massachusetts • Roughly 30 million people visit this park every year, and most of those by bus • 32,000 climbers have attempted to climb Denali with about a 40% success rate. 100 have died including 11 in 1992. • In terms of vertical relief or elevation from base to summit (18,000 feet) Denali is the tallest mountain in the world.
General Information (continued) • Its location and height make it one of the coldest mountains on earth. • In May, the night-time temperatures on the upper slopes can reach -30 to -40 degrees, while in the winter it can reach -95 degrees or lower with winds up to 150 mph. • Given the size of the mountain, it can create its own weather.
History • Athapaskan people moved from the north to the center of Alaska by the mountains. • Archaeologists found camps along the mountains • They also found fossils of dinosaurs along the mountain side • Asian people crossed from the Bering land bridge to the national park area • It was founded in 1917
Geology • Denali National Park has the Biggest mountain in North America called Mt. McKinley. • It has over 650 species of flowers • There are also 37 species of mammals

Geology (continued) • There are Three major Glaciers called Kahiltna, Muldrow, and Ruth Glaciers. • Alaska has 40 named glaciers around the Alaska mountain range in the park. • Glaciers play an important role of the development of Denali National Park and Reserve
