What is WyldLife? • WyldLife is simple. Our desire is to serve, mentor, and love on middle school students, their families and Ligon Middle. We know how hard middle school can be, and want to be there to walk with kids through this season of their life. We will listen, help with homework, visit them in and out of school, and welcome them at any and all WyldLife events. WyldLife is part of a larger Christian organization called Young Life.
Who are the leaders? • Krystal Smith kasmit13@ncsu.edu 757-560-1138 Emmanuel Holder emmanuelcholder@gmail.com 919-618-4274 Jesse Whiteside jesse2042@gmail.com 828-638-2042
What does WyldLife do? • Contact Work • Going to lunches, buses, after school programs, sports games/recitals/plays, and spending time with students outside of school • Club • WyldLife clubs are a practiced art form. They are high energy and interactive, fast paced and unpredictable. Leaders use personal testimonies, media clips, popular songs and a lot of creativity when planning the club format.
What does WyldLife do? • Campaigners • Campaigners is an opportunity for middle school students to split into smaller groups and talk about what is going on in their lives. This is a chance for them to grow closer to their leader as well as other students at the school. It is designed for kids who want to go deeper and learn more than they do at Club. • Camp • WyldLife camp is designed to be the “best week of your life.” It is a great opportunity for students to hear great speakers, get closer to their leader and friends from school, and do activities like adventure courses, rock climbing, kayaking, and swimming. Ligon WyldLife will go to camp one weekend in the winter (date TBA between end of Jan. and end of Mar.) and one week in the summer (date TBA)
WyldLife in Raleigh • Currently, there is WyldLife at Daniels Middle, St. David’s Middle, West Millbrook and East Millbrook. • Young Life is at almost every high school in Raleigh and Wake County. • There are all area WyldLife meetings every other Friday from 7 to 8:30 pm held at Church of the Apostles near North Hills. All students are welcome and Ligon students can bring friends from other schools. • The Raleigh area director is Courtney Lancaster (cjlancaster@mac.com) and the WyldLife Coordinator is Austin Howe (austindhowe@gmail.com).
Parent Involvement • The primary goal with parent involvement is that we keep parents informed and strive to get to know not just students, but parents and families as well (Example: helping juniors and seniors with college applications/decisions) In WyldLife, adults and parents usually play a more prominent role in the kids' lives and in their decisions. WyldLife Team Moms and Dads lead and shepherd a team of WyldLife leaders at a middle school and promote WyldLife with adults in the community. Parent Support Groups assist the staff and leaders with everything from giving rides to providing food for club. • If you are interested, email kasmit13@ncsu.edu.
All students are welcome at WyldLife, no matter what they believe, and leaders strive to make it so that students from every background feel welcome and loved at every WyldLife Event. • Also, we want to be a part of any student’s life, whether or not they are interested in coming to WyldLife events.
