Robots in Your Home Roomba Vacuum Cleaning Robot The embedded computer or microcontroller controls the Roomba When large pieces of debris are picked up, the pieces hit metal plates inside the vacuum, and the Roomba “hear them” and can increase the vacuum power” Infrared Sensor: can “see” boundary beacons Think (Brain) See Hearing Do Work Energy Touch Battery Cell Pack: Supplies power to do work Large brushes sweep up dirt Walk General Robot Switches on front bumper “feel” walls, and cliff sensors “see” the overhang Algorithm: The search pattern Roomba is programmed to follow. Spiral out, go straight and either follow a wall/surface or criss-cross through the center of the room. Each of the wheels have their own motors, allowing Roomba to move and spin in place.
