Background: Domestic Supply • Canada produces more than enough gasoline to meet its overall domestic needs, in fact, it is a net exporter of gasoline. • However, gasoline is sometimes imported into Canada when refineries shut down for maintenance, when unusual events cause a disruption in operations or when it is more economic to do so. • In 2005 Statistic Canada reports: • Canadian Gasoline production: 46.1 billion litres • Exports: 9.8 billion litres • Imports: 3.8 billion litres • Domestic Sales: 40.8 billion litres
