The 3 W’s WHY? – ‘A wise man (or woman!) asks himself 7 times “why” before acting’ • Why am I going to give this presentation? • Why do people want to attend? WHAT? – Answering the ‘WHY’ question properly will tell you the ‘WHAT’ • SELL your ideas – concentrate on the benefits • Select the ‘MUST’ knows • Keep content targeted and focus on creating interest • Create a vehicle WHO? Your audience • Who are you presenting to? What level? Background? • What knowledge do they already have? • What are the WIFT’s? • Are they really interested?

Tell ‘em what you’re going to tell ‘em. Tell ‘em and then….. Tell ‘em what you’ve told ‘em!’
BIKER B! Bang! - Use a hook, get their attention Introduction - Outline you key points and introduce your hook! Key points – 1-5 key messages (WIFT) Examples - At least 1 example per key point – help them remember Recap – Summarise your key points Bang! – Finish with a closing hook – ideally linked to the opening bang
When in doubt cut it out! I must apologise for making a rather long speech this morning. I didn’t have time to prepare a short one!

Handling Nerves Remember 87% of us suffer from nerves when presenting! So …try to relax! Exercise your muscles Avoid alcohol and coffee Breathe deeply PREPARE!

Prepare Think about questions you’ll be asked Prepare succinct answers Practise Practise answering the most difficult questions Relax Try to keep calm, even if your audience is hostile Repeat If you don't hear the question or understand it, ask the questioner to repeat it, Reflect - ‘If I understand correctly, you’re asking…’ Deflect • Group - ‘What do the rest of the group feel?’ • Ricochet - ‘John your an expert on this. What do you think?’ • Reverse – ‘You’ve obviously done some thinking on this. What’s your view?’ Honest Honesty is the best policy, if you don't know the answer to something, admit it
