Space Generation Advisory Council • Space Generation: • Anyone born after Sputnik • Born into a fundamentally different world • UNISPACE III: A council for youth • Observer status at the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) • NGO in Vienna and the US • 2500 members world wide • Elected council with 6 Regional Coordinators • Points of contacts in almost 100 countries • Represent youth views to UN OOSA and other bodies • Invited to participate in EU space policy process • Promote space activities amongst the world’s youth

  2. Overview of the survey • What key events do think should occur in the next 50 years? • Youth aged 18 – 29 • Tried to be objective without leading questions – opened ended • 276 distinct respondents • 750 key events described • Important but unresolved issues followed up in Round 2.

Theme 1: Ensuring the Survival Interests of Humanity • Overwhelming response: The Moon • 20% of all responses concerned the moon • Return to the Moon • Development of a permanent presence • Utilization of Lunar resources: He-3, far-side astronomy, launch pad for future deep space missions • Space Governance • 70% say new space governing body should be formed • Most say start this governance now • Responses split on who should form the governing body • International Cooperation • A world summit in space • Easy flow of the world’s workforce • New collaborative techniques

Theme 2: Space for the Benefit of All and Our Environment • Commercialization and Privatization of space • A significant and topical theme • Develop 100% private space activities • Reliable point-to-point product transportation • Emergent differences between regions • Education and Outreach • Better space education • Outreach to the common person • Energy and Resources • Develop cleaner energy systems to preserve Earth • Bring resources from space • Space Sports, art and culture
