SAB Renewed Focus On Vitality Four year focus… • Vitality Chair – Claire Lohr • Membership Focus – John Harauz • Expansion of Business Base – 2005 - FIPA/ EPEAT; 2006 - IPV6? • Interoperability – numerous liaisons within CS and IEEE
Overview of Current Initiatives • SAB Website • Promotions Using Standards • Intragroup Coordination • IEEE CS SAB and External Standards Organizations • SAB – IEEE SA and IEEE ISTO
SAB Website Redesign to include portal type capabilities to support SAB Sponsors and Working Groups Allowing us to be responsive to the requests of our current and target user community…to increase our standards footprint, market, and customer base.
Promotions Using Standards Working with SA and CS Marketing (J. Harauz lead): • Books: Standards series and best practices series • Online FAQs, Interpretation Guidance, Due Diligence guidelines • Package standards better; S2ESC as example, complete Standards packages by product and sector • Guidance on how to use standards; e.g. achieving CMM, ISO 9000 certification, continuous improvement • Seminars, Case studies, presentation slides, On-line Tool repository • Offer core standards set to colleges, universities, and technical schools at no, or significantly reduced, cost. • CS standards related press release process (2005).
Intragroup Coordination (SAB/TAB) Stephanie White – (J.Cole/J.Harauz) Soliciting POCs to follow up on top level matrix and helping to coordinate liaisons. • TC newsletters for disseminating standards knowledge and recruit standards members. • Solicit discussions with TC chairs on emerging standards and recruiting standards members and standards participation at conferences.
Intragroup Coordination (SAB/CAB) Christina Schober – (D.Schultz) Currently kicking off a combined SAB/CAB initiative to reach out to the local regional chapters to present standards related seminars. • These would be held in conjunction with each Board of Governors meeting. Possible revenue generation as PDUs from seminars. • First presentations in San Francisco with John Walz and Rohit Kapur as slated speakers. • Trial being conducted as a measure of interest and associated cost, after review, will determine whether to pursue formally and present to the Board/ExeCom for formal consideration as an outreach program.
Intragroup Coordination (SAB/EAB) Murali Varnasi – (D.Schultz) Exploring possible joint outreach initiatives. The following ideas are being discussed as they relate to standards: • Continuing Education • Courses • Distance Education support • Validate pre-published standards using school class experiments • Brochures and give-aways for high schools and universities (this is being done in Canada currently – we are looking at their model)
External Standards Organizations • Continue to ensure that CS SAB and its sponsors are represented as a vital and vigorous player within the international standards arena. • Ensure that IEEE CS standards continue to receive international adoption and recognition. • Continue to support the international adoption of the SWEBOK. Ensure the internal compliance of SWE standards with 12207 and 15288.
SAB – IEEE SA and IEEE ISTO • Working to establish closer working relationships with both IEEE SA and IEEE ISTO. • Working to better define how the CS standards business model compliments these other IEEE standards organizations and how we can all work to reach out to the betterment of the three internal SDOs.
Summary • Working to: • Support our current membership • Reach out to new members – DIVERSIFY • Broaden our business base • Define our role with IEEE SA and ISTO • Market our strengths
