The Society Founding Premise: The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded to bring together qualified women educators serving in a broad spectrum of educational fields to pursue professional projects. Mission Statement: The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

  3. The Society was founded on May 11, 1929 in Austin, Texas. It is the result of a vision held by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton and eleven others to promote women in education and bring recognition and respect to their profession. History Lesson Our Heritage Volumes I & II

  4. Seven Purposes • To unite women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship • To honor women who have given or who evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of education • To advance the professional interest and position of women in education

  5. To initiate, endorse, and support desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interests of education and of women educators • To endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to women educators from other countries.

  6. To stimulate the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of action • To inform the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in a world society

International Sisterhood The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is composed of 77 state organizations in 16 countries: •  51 states in the United States of America , including the District of Columbia •  8 provinces in Canada •  6 states in Mexico •  4 Latin American countries •  9 European countries

  13. The Rewards of Membership The rewards of membership bear a direct relationship to each individual’s commitment. Programs are designed to create a stimulating environment for the professional and personal growth of each member as well as to focus group attention on current educational issues and to allow formulation of alternatives and solutions. Chapters carry out their own programs and projects through this framework. Programs are further enhanced at the state and international levels through special projects and meetings.

  22. Helpful Protocol Reminders • This is a SOCIETY, not a sorority • The Chapter and State naming system is based on the Greek alphabet • Always write , never DKG • The twelve women who started the Society are called the Founders • Wear the key pin correctly
