Carl Rogers Person Centered Theory • Believed that everyone’s main goal is to achieve self actualization • In order to achieve Self Actualization….environment must be genuine, accepting, and empathetic----- way people think of us effect the way we feel of ourselves
We are always evaluated! • Positive Regard- people (mostly children) always seek people’s approval! How so? • The Conditions of Worth- the person, instead of the behavior is evaluated
In order to be self- actualized we need…. • Unconditional Positive Regard- an attitude of total acceptance toward another person. • Empathetic- showing understanding to people. • All aspects effect how we view our self.
This assignment will help you review the 3 theorists that we just discussed in class • Directions: You will create a poster that summarizes the 3 major psychologists we have studied so far and the different concepts to their theories. • Step 1: Break your Poster down into 3 sections- Sigmund Freud, Abraham Maslow, and Carl Rogers • Step 2: Summarize each of the psychologists’ theories in • Example: Under Freud I would write. “Sigmund Freud believed in the unconscious……..” • Step 3: Define any key words and terms under each psychologist. Under step 2 define any key terms. • Step 4: Make it look creative! • Pointers: Work as a team. Assign each person a task! One person could be the Freud expert, while another could be a Maslow Expert.
