History of Ht Mod Leveling in Minnesota • Planned to start leveling in 1996 to the Minnesota HARN’s that did not have a previous 1st or 2nd order published benchmark. • Project never really got going (personnel changes). • Started up again in 2000 after phone call to NGS. • All 603 HARN marks (100%) have been leveled to 2nd order Class I or better. • 119 RTN/CORS sites leveled to or near. Future of Height Mod in Minnesota • 5 year plan • Complete leveling of all state roads. • Re-level vertical control surveys performed before 1980 (> 30 years old). • Move and re-level vertical control marks within 50 foot of railroad tracks – (safety). • Continue to “blue book” horizontal and vertical surveys. • Continue county densifications for the entire State of Minnesota on 6 or 3 mile grid spacing. • Continue to incorporate Wisconsin’s RTRN system with Minnesota’s RTRN. Natl Ht Mod Partners Mtg - Frankfort, KY
Uncertain Future of Height Mod in Minnesota • 5 year plan • Waiting for guidance on gravity measurements. • Additional ground based measurements needed? • Waiting for OPUS PROJECTS to be implemented. • Stop the “bluebook” submittal process. • Waiting for National vertical adjustment based on National CORS system. • Waiting for vertical backlog at NGS to get out of the triple digits for Minnesota (136 as of December 2012) Natl Ht Mod Partners Mtg - Frankfort, KY
