Today’s Agenda • Explain homework for next class. • Mention presentations, Essay 1, & the Writing Center. • Quiz (on pages 2301-03 & 2323-24, the PowerPoint slides of context for GT, and two questions are on GT, Part 4, Chapters 1-4.) • Underscore Swift’s position and perspective. • Go over the quotations by Terry Eagleton (handout). • Go over Swift’s reputation (Handout—Writers’ Comments) • Four categories: 18th century, Romantic, Victorian, Modern • What main are the main points of their evaluations of Swift? • As time allows, go over highlights of Part 4 of GT. • What parts stand out to you and why?

Homework for next class • Read Gulliver’s Travels: Part 4, Chapters 9-12 (pp. 2447-62) and Joseph Addison’s “The Royal Exchange” (from The Spectator, pp. 2479-81) • Sign ups for presentations will be on Tuesday in class, or e-mail me your top three preferences any time after class today. • Put the three in your order of preference. • Provide three options, not one or two.
