  2. “We are living on this planet as if we had another one to go to.”-Terry Swearingen

  3. “Are these things really better than the things I already have? Or am I just trained to be dissatisfied with what I have now?” ― Chuck Palahniuk, Lullaby

  4. “Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world that you want to live in.”- Anna Lappe

  5. “People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used. The reason that the world is in chaos is that things are being loved and people are being used.”- Unknown

  6. So what can we do?

  7. 1) Decide if you really need it • Need vs. want- is the want worth it? • Avoid the impulse buy • “Wish ten times” method • Make the stuff you already have work • Try living with less

  8. 2) Source Sustainably • Cast a vote for the sort of world you want to live in • Buy secondhand • Shop local • Support companies that give back to their communities and practice sustainable business • Hold clothing, game, etc. swaps with friends

  9. 3) Choose Responsibly • Buy stuff that’s built to last and that you’ll like for a long time • Choose Fair Trade, Organic or otherwise environmentally friendly products • Go beyond the price tag- look for true value (does this product improve the world or make it worse)

  10. 4) Dispose Properly • Use it until it truly cannot be used anymore • Donate old clothes and toys • If you can’t donate them, re-use them • Dispose of electronics and toxic waste responsibly

  11. “You can blame society. You can blame the corporations. But you are not a lemming. You are not a mouse. You are a human soul on fire and you have to be accountable for what you allow them to sell to you, the sort of world you allow them to create.” -Unknown
