National VET Regulator (NVR) standards for teachers in RTOs • hold the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) from the Training and Education (TAE) Training Package as a minimum qualification or be able to demonstrate equivalence of competencies; • AND • be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed • AND • be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and trainer/assessor competence.
What does it mean for our teaching staff? • Existing staff without the Certificate IV TAE must take a course of action in order for the Institute to be compliant by 1 July 2013

Upgrading qualifications to the Certificate IV Training and Assessment (TAE 40110) 7 core units 3 electives
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) • Each group of teachers (BSZ98, TAA04 or no qualification) have a slightly different process • Not a teaching process – it is recognition of prior learning • Collect clearly identified evidence • Have a professional conversation not necessarily face to face (may be recorded)
RPL Process BSZ98 & No Qualification • Complete the EOI • Allocation to a college • Contact with Head Teacher and/or Assessor • Attend an information session for your allocated College • Enrol through Mevi • Log in to Moodle
RPL Process BSZ98 & No Qualification • Collect evidence • Upload evidence • Participate in professional conversation • Sign all the paperwork • Part Time/Casual Teachers • submit receipt & transcript within 2 weeks of receiving transcript for partial reimbursement
RPL Process TAA04 • Complete the EOI • Allocation to a college • Contact with Head Teacher and/or Assessor • Attend an information session for your allocated College • Enrol through Mevi • Log in to Moodle
RPL Process TAA04 • Collect evidence • Upload evidence • Sign all the paperwork • Part Time/Casual Teachers • No reimbursement
Start and End Dates • Enrol by 21st May 2012 for first intake • Enrolment is via Mevi • Finish by 21st September 2012
Moodle Moodle will be used for each College and each qualification group Templates for evidence will be available on Moodle Uploading of evidence can be done through Moodle Information on how to use Moodle will be made available
Individual Learning Plans Individual learning plans may be developed to cover area where competence has not yet been attained. Options to submit additional evidence
Peer Groups • Support each other • Set up work groups within your Section • A mentor who has been through the process can assist the group • Workshops may be available for the peer groups
Workforce Development • Additional support • Provide workshops aligned to some of the components Certificate IV • Educational Edge program eg Demystifying the VET Environment, Assessment and RPL, Group facilitation techniques and more
