  2. Rights and responsibilities • As a student at Rolling Meadows Elementary you are granted several rights as a learner. • Along with these rights come many responsibilities. • When you take care of your responsibilities, • you can truly enjoy your rights.

  3. It is my right to… It is my responsibility to… BEHAVE SAFELY and not hurt others with actions or words. Work quietly and not distract other learners. to listen and follow directions so she can teach. keep my space neat and be respectful with materials and supplies. Wait my turn and raise my hand to share or ask questions. • to be SAFE! • LEARN new things! • to have a kind and caring teacher  • to have my own space and supplies. • participate in class.

  4. Restrooms and water Please use the restroom before school starts. We will take one classroom break on our way to lunch to wash and take care of business. Tables will be dismissed to use RR after specials and lunch. If you must go during “learning Time”, please place the “Got to Go” cup on your desk. In the restroom: quiet zone, wash your hands, and do not make a mess. Report any problems immediately. When getting a drink of water, please drink from the top of the rainbow and count to three and move on. You may keep a pop up water bottle at your desk. Fill it up at home.

  5. The goal: get to our destination! Lining up and walking • Listen to directions when lining up. • Line leader is first and door holder is next. • Always face forward watching where we are going. • Stay behind the person in front of you. Stay close but don’t invade! • Walk quickly but not too fast…remember I’m old. • Wait at intersections. • No talking or stomping – you’re in the quiet zone. • Hold the handrail going up and down the stairs ONE AT A TIME!

  6. Morning snack and lunch time • You may bring a healthy snack to eat quickly after specials while we are working. • Pick up your snack when we are entering the room. • Throw away your trash when finished. • Pick up your lunch box on the way to the cafeteria. • Manners are a must ! • Wait patiently in line, stay seated, do not share food, use an indoor voice, clean up after yourself!

  7. Recess! It is optional! You’ve worked hard, now it is time to take a break! SAFETY FIRST! Follow the playground rules. Have fun but play fair! Line-up quickly.

  8. Not feeling well?Need a band-aid? • If you feel sick, please let me know • If you think you are going to throw-up, get to the trash can!!! • If you are hurt, please let me know. I have Band-Aids. • You can go to the nurse if you are throwing up, have a fever, or bleeding. • Remember you can’t learn if you’re not in the classroom. Can I go to the nurse?

  9. supplies • You are responsible for coming to school prepared. • Start the habit of making sure you have everything before leaving home. • Be respectful of all materials. • Keep all items in their place. Your tool box should have red checking pen, crayons, scissors, dry erase marker & eraser, and 2 glue sticks. • Start each day with 2 sharpened pencils. Turn in pencils that need to sharpened at the end of the day. Tips down please. • Your desk is for supplies, it is not a trash can. • Toys from home should be left at home. If you don’t need it to learn, keep it at home please. • I will keep your extra supplies in baggie with your name on it.

Ms. Low’s Daily Schedule • 7:00 Working in the pod • 7:25 Enter classroom and unpack • 7:30 Announcements and homework check-in • 7:45 Flextime for tutoring, D.E.A.R., Exemplars, Fact Drills, Writing • 8:30 Specials: Mondays/music • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays/PE • Thursdays/Computers • 9:15 Math • 11:00 Lunch • 11:30 Recess • 11:50 Spelling • 12:00 Reader’s Workshop • 1:00 Writer’s Workshop • 1:30 Science/Social Studies • 2:15 Clean-up/pack-up • 2:25 Dismissal to pod Library Day: Fridays 10:30-11:00 iStation: Mondays 10:15 – 11:00

  12. Morning Routine • Eat breakfast before coming to the directly to the pod. • Enter the pod quietly and sit in our class line. Please solve story problems on the board, practice weekly math facts, and study spelling words. If you need to finish your homework or retest, please go to the Homework House. • Use the restroom before the bell rings. • When the bell rings, quickly and quietly come to class and get your “I’m Here” ticket and put it in chart. • Unpack your backpack at your desk. Place on your desk notes from home, all homework, and your reading book. • Hang up your backpack and jacket on the hooks. Lunches and snacks in their place. • Make sure you have 2 sharpened pencils and your red checking pen. • Read quietly while waiting for morning announcements. • During morning announcements, please listen respectfully and stand for the pledge. • After announcements, sit down quietly and wait for instructions. • Table captains should start checking in homework.

Time flies: LET’S GO HOME! • ALWAYS KNOW HOW WHERE YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO GO AT THE END OF THE DAY! • GIVE ME YOUR NOTE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DAY IF YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT. • I WILL SIGNAL WHEN IT IS TIME TO PACK UP. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? • YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR: • CLEANING UP • GETTING OUT YOUR HOMEWORK JOURNAL AND WRITING DOWN ASSIGNMENTS • CAPTAIN WILL PASS OUT CONDUCT CALENDAR. COLOR TODAY’S BOX YOUR END OF DAY TICKET COLOR. PLEASE PUT IN TAKE HOME FOLDER. • MAKE SURE YOUR HOMEWORK PAPERS ARE IN YOUR TAKE HOME FOLDER. • GET YOUR BACKPACK, JACKET, AND LUNCH BOX. • PACK YOUR READING BOOK. • GET PAPERS READY TO BE SENT HOME (GRADED WORK AND NOTES) FROM THE SEND HOME FILE BOX. • EXCHANGE YOUR COLOR TICKET FOR BONUS TICKETS!!! • TURN IN PENCILS THAT NEED TO BE SHARPENED WITH TIPS DOWN. • THROW AWAY TRASH / CLEAN THE FLOOR • STACK YOUR CHAIR ON DESK AND WAIT QUIETLY AT YOUR DESK FOR DISMISSAL. • HUG ME ON YOUR WAY OUT! • FOLLOW DISMISSAL PROCEDURES IN THE POD AND TO YOUR DEPARTURE DESTINATION!

  14. Folders and Journals • Take Home Folder is for taking homework, graded papers, and notices home. It is not a suitcase. Place papers in it neatly please. It should be cleaned out nightly. Bring back only those papers that need to be returned. Keep it in your desk. • Paper-Saver folder will be kept at school to keep our “Under Construction” work. Place papers neatly in pockets and small pieces in sheet protector. Keep it in your desk. • We will have journals for each subject area. Each activity/entry must have your name and date in the outside corner. These STAY AT SCHOOL! Keep these in your cubby.

  15. It is time to learn What should I do? • Listen and follow all directions. This means to pay attention – eyes and ears on the teacher. Get rid of distractions. • Ask questions if you don’t understand by raising your hand. • Stay in your seat. • Do the work! • Always try! Never quit or cheat! • Talk to me before school, at recess, or after school if you would like some extra help! • I’m here to help you!

  16. Are grades important? • Grades show what you know! • Each grade counts toward your report card. • Honor roll awards. • Recommendations for robotics and other clubs. • National Jr. Honor Society in 5th Grade. • Your Parents care! • Do you? • Your grades will reflect your effort !

  17. How can I get great grades! Set a goal! What grade do you want? • Be in school! You cant learn if you’re not here! • Being absent/tardy hurts your learning • Always do your best. Be proud of your work. • Ask for help if needed – don’t wait! • Complete assignments neatly and accurately. • Redo or retest if you get a low grade. • Put your name on your papers – always! • You are responsible for making up any absent work and keeping track of your papers.

  18. HOMEWORK! You will have reading, math, and spelling assignments Mondays through Thursdays. You are expected to read over the weekends. All homework must be completed neatly and accurately. If you turn in less than your best, it will need to be redone during recess or sent back home to redo. Yes, we will have homework!

  19. Get Ticketed! Some tickets are good, others not so good • Your behavior can help or hurt your ‘s and other’s learning. • Learn more by making good choices and earn some tickets! • You will get a GREEN ticket to put in your pocket for just being here! • If it stays green all day, you can exchange it for 2 bonus tickets. • If you decide to make poor choices, you will need to exchange your green ticket for another ticket: • First warning = change to YELLOW, lose 5 minutes of recess. • Second warning = change to RED, conduct calendar signed, lose all your recess. • Third warning = change to PURPLE, CC signed, lose recess, parents called, possible office referral. • Conduct calendar signed outside the classroom = RED ticket and consequences. • Missing or incomplete homework or classwork = PINK ticket and do it at recess! • Earn a BLUE ticket for doing something really outstanding! Blue tickets are worth 2 bonus tickets. • On Friday afternoons, you can choose to • save your bonus tickets or • buy goodies!

  20. Third Grade 2013 - 2014 Let’s work together to make this the best year ever! If we work together, we will learn a lot and have fun too! Who’s in?
