Best Large Company- Astellas Staff took part in- Team Pedometer Challenge Family 5km walk/run in National Park Cycling to/from work Climb the 2nd highest mountain in Ireland Health fair (in association with I.T. Tralee Weekly walks after work
Best Small Company- Tonezone Gym • Completed the Dublin City Marathon (42.2km) • Row the Dublin section of the Liffey(20km) • Cycle the length of all cycle paths in Dublin (120km) • Climb the height of the Spire (121m) • Also had some of their gym members take part in the challenge
Best Medium Company- St. John of Gods Menni Services • They chose to cover the distance of 126km each by walking or running. This was the distance between their branch and Limerick where the Special Olympics was taking place. • Not only did their staff get involved, but they encouraged their service users were also encouraged with weekly volleyball and hockey games between staff and service users. • They held weekly organised walks and held two treasure hunts and two swimming competitions in order to get their staff moving.
Best Media Campaign- Triathlon Ireland • Engaged their staff, sponsors and key partners to swim, bike and run to the centre of the earth. • 4,057 km covered at an average speed of 9.6 km/h • 274 workouts completed • 600 hours, 54 minutes and 58 seconds spent working out • Triathlon Ireland’s Media guru set up a Triathlon Ireland Challenge website to track their mileage and have interaction between sponsors and staff during the month and beyond. • All participants were able to log in to see how far they had travelled towards the centre of the earth on any given day. They could also see the total hours and the average speed each day. • Triathlon Ireland linked it to their own website so anyone logging onto their website could see how they were progressing with their Challenge.
Best Sporting Organisation- FAI • The FAI set out to visit as many of the 2014 Senior World Cup Qualifying away venues, on foot or bicycle. Venues included Dublin to: Torshavn, Stockholm, Cologne, Vienna, Astana. • A total of 8106km. The FAI staff got to 4 of the 5 venues listed. • They organised lunchtime walks and soccer. • Thursdays after work included activities like boxfit and bootcamp. The FAI also took part in the Dublin Staff Relay on May 22nd.
Best Fundraiser- Alkermes Pharmaceutical • AlkermesPharmaceutical took part in the TriAthlone event and used this to raise money for their chosen charity. • In 2012, they raised over €8,000 for Pieta house. • They used the Sports Council Challenge as motivation and training for their event.
Best Overall- Certification Europe • Certification Europe aimed to complete a triathlon a day. • As well as their triathlon challenge staff were required to organise collateral activities to initiate a healthy lifestyle. • As well as an increase in physical activity, staff were encouraged to eat healthy, monitor their water intake and the company has even started a weight loss programme for staff. • A wii fit and foosball table were also put in the office to encourage active break times.
